Floor to ceiling windows are a common request among people building their dream homes in Lake Tahoe and Truckee. Everyone wants to incorporate the stunning natural beauty of the landscape. Doug Gendron of California Craftsmen noted, “I had customer order over $150,000 worth of windows and doors. Before ordering, they had researched extensively online and knew exactly what they wanted.” While the magnitude of the order was noteworthy, the anecdote about online research of construction materials sparked an idea for a blog series.
Over the coming months Architect Mason Kirby, Inc. is going examine the design trends in the new construction and remodeling industry across the Northern California area in the context of the building process. Posts will detail options to consider while planning and building your dream home.
As all good building projects should begin, the first post will focus on the beginning of the building or remodeling process. We will cover how to communicate your design ideas with architect or builder, how to establish a realistic budget and how to decide whether your project should be designed by an architect or a builder.
The second post will focus on how to select a qualified contractor. What questions should you be asking? What references should you be checking?
From there we will begin “building” the house from the foundation up. The home will be energy efficient and designed for real life.
